Key information

Age range: 16-25

Location: Edinburgh, West Lothian, East Lothian, Dundee, Angus, Perth, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire

Who it's for: Young people experiencing challenging life circumstances, who want to make positive life changes.

How to apply

Inspiring Young Futures is for young people, encouraging them to think about what they would like to achieve and helps them work towards their goals.

The programme offers regular community-based outreach support wrapped around an 8-day Wilderness Journey usually in the highlands of Scotland. Through intensive learning and personal development individuals will consolidate their new skills, boost confidence, motivation and aspirations.

Inspiring Young Futures is designed for young people aged 16-25, struggling with a range of challenging circumstances:

- care-experienced background

- involvement in offending / anti-social behaviour

- history of substance misuse

- homelessness

- low academic achievement

- fragmented family relationships

- early stage social work involvement

Our programmes provide support for up to 9 months helping individuals to make and sustain connections to services and employment, education, training or volunteering opportunities within their communities.

In the last 6 years of delivering the programme Venture Trust has worked with 1870 referrals, engaged 1645 and supported 943 young people to achieve a first positive destination of education, training, volunteering or employment.

Participants are achieving even more than we’d hoped:

  • 78% of participants improve their confidence,
  • 75% increase their range of employability skills,
  • During 2015/16, 114 young people from the programme progressed into positive destinations – education, training, volunteering or employment.

In addition, over 98% of respondents to our 2015 Inspiring Young Futures Referrer's Survey indicated there would be a gap in services if the programme was not available.
