Head of Fundraising

Full-time, Edinburgh

Starting salary circa £45k depending on experience

Venture Trust is an amazing personal development charity supporting people, aged 16 years and over who need urgent help to break free of the many complex challenges that stop them from realising their potential. Our strengths lie in the relationships and bonds we forge. Working in communities, in greenspaces and journeying through some of Scotland’s most wild places, we actively focus on an individual’s strengths, equipping them with essential life-skills, building confidence and motivation. We want no one left behind and everyone to succeed and to continue to do so throughout their lives. Over the next three years we aim to help 2,000 people. We need a Head of Fundraising to be part of an exciting journey that makes our vision a reality. We believe that with our partners we can beat the challenge of inequality in Scottish society.

The leadership role of Head of Fundraising is a key one for the organisation; you will lead a team of 8 and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team will report to the CEO. You will be responsible for building our strategic partnerships, enhancing our impact and working to deliver our ambitious fundraising strategy. We are looking for someone who works collaboratively, who is curious, insightful and cares about people and relationships, to develop opportunities which support us to do our best work.

To be considered for the role, you will have experience at a leadership level in business development, shaping and executing strategy, and senior relationship management. You will also have experience of leading and motivating a fundraising team and building and maintaining a network of funders and key contacts. Experience of dealing with policy and government would be advantageous. Fundraising and income generation across the public and private sectors is at the core of this role, and you will be responsible for maximising opportunities to secure and maintain all funding opportunities. We are looking for someone who shares our values and believes in the potential of people.

You will be responsible for providing the financial and HR leadership across the organisation and advising on all aspects of charity and company legislation, governance and policy. We are looking for someone who works collaboratively, who is curious, insightful and cares about people and relationships, to drive impact and sustainability and support our people to maximise their contribution in achieving our goals.

To be considered for the role, you will have experience at a senior leadership level in financial accounting and reporting, including external statutory reporting and audit. You will also have experience of successfully leading and managing teams, and of successful project management and development. An appropriate professional qualification(s); knowledge and experience of HR systems, policy and practice; information management and data security would be advantageous. Developing and maintaining relationships, policies and processes which maximise our effectiveness is at the core of this role. We are looking for someone who shares our values and believes in the potential of people.

Holidays

At Venture Trust we offer a generous holiday allowance of 28 days, plus 9 bank and public holiday days per year. Staff with three years’ service or more also benefit from accruing additional long-service annual leave.

Pension

We offer all employees the opportunity to join our workplace pension scheme – 5% contribution made by the individual and 3% contribution made by Venture Trust.

Flexible working and time off

We recognise the growing need for people today to be able to work flexibly. That’s why we’ve developed a number of flexible working opportunities for our staff.

We provide support for time off when you need it most. We provide more generous maternity provisions than required by law, but we’ve not forgotten about dad’s either – we provide the statutory two weeks’ paid paternity leave with the option to take further paid leave where mum returns to work before her maternity pay period ends. We also offer eighteen weeks’ parental leave, and flexible dependent care leave, and are keen to support time off for career or personal development breaks where possible.

Learning and development

Venture Trust recognises that it is essential to support and encourage staff to develop their skills so we can consistently provide a high quality service to the people we work with, and increase individual job satisfaction. That’s why our annual appraisal process provides a formal setting to focus on development needs and why we offer up to 10 days a year for staff training and development.
